The money piece trend has evolved over the last few years, making a strong comeback in 2021. There are lots of theories out there about why it’s called the money piece, but I’m giving you mine.

Money Piece Hair or Million Dollar Piece?
First of all, I had no idea that the money piece was also referred to as the million-dollar piece. But apparently, it’s a thing! I personally believe that it was referenced as a million-dollar piece as a way to rename a technique. Kind of like rebranding, but calling it the best. Because who wants money when you can have a million?
Nonetheless, I call it the money piece because that’s the original name of the technique. I’ve been doing this hair thing for a couple of decades now, so you can’t change my mind. It’s not because I’m “old”. It’s because trends cycle back around and people rename stuff all the time. Marketing 101.
Why is it called the Money Piece?
A few theories are:
ONE, it makes you look like a million bucks (hence the term million dollar piece).
TWO: the money piece frames the money maker (aka, your face).
The real answer? It takes a hairstylist little time, minimal foiling, and not much product. AND we can charge a substantial amount for the service! Clients also need to come in every 6 weeks to maintain the look, giving us more money in our pocket. Cha-Ching!
