Tips for long lasting extensions:

-Educate your clients on brushing their hair. Make sure they are brushing their hair at least 2 times a day. It is also important that they get close to the bead when brushing their hair. It removes knots and allows the beads to grow out seamlessly. Always start at the bottom and work your way up.

-In the move-up process, if there is any damage to the bead, you must replace it. If you don’t, it can cause damage to the natural hair. Because the hair is already pre-sectioned out, it is easy to use your loop tool and a new bead for a move up.

-Use Donna Bella Mini Clips for clean sectioning. When doing extensions, clean sections are the most important thing. Don’t be afraid to use as many clips as you need!

-After the easy move up, always wash your client’s scalp. I like to use a clarifying shampoo. After a couple of months of growth, they will want to have their scalps professionally scrubbed and the excess hair to be shed.

-This is up to you and what you charge, but at my salon, we include a toner with any installation. This is to ensure an even color match. If the extensions match perfectly, you can include a clear gloss or deep conditioning treatment to smooth down the cuticle and help the extensions blend.

-When toning the extensions, you have to keep in mind that they can be porous. You want to color match at the level of the extensions so it doesn’t pull too dark.

Must have tools and products for hair extensions:

Donna Bella Boar Bristle brush– It is important to always send your clients home with one of the Donna Bella Boar bristle brushes. This brush is custom made for Donna Bella Extensions to gently detangle knots in the hair. The brush easily glides through hair extensions without damaging the bonds that hold them in.

Donna Bella Hair Twisties– The Donna Bella Hair Twisties serve as a bun and ponytail holder without marking the hair with an unattractive dented line. You can easily use them to pull your hair up to protect your extensions at night, or off of your neck when you work out! The stretchy telephone cord shape allows it to grip firmly to the hair without placing uncomfortable pressure on the head and ripping out your hair. The twist of the hair tie helps ensure that it stays in all day until you want to remove it.

Donna Bella Silk Pillowcase– According to the Donna Bella Website, “This standard queen-size 100% Silk pillowcase promotes and extends the life of your hair extension investment. Silk is so gentle, it allows skin and hair to glide across the surface instead of causing unwanted friction. Reduce split-ends, ensures a longer lasting blow-out, and protects skin from visual damage like creases.”

Color Safe Shampoo and Conditioner– It is important to have proper products to maintain your extensions. After all, it is real hair. If you are not educating your clients on the proper products, they may have to replace the hair a lot sooner than needed.
