Pink peekaboo? Yes please! In this video tutorial I show you how to do Pink Peekaboo Highlights on Dark Hair using all Kenra Color!
Client: “I want my hair to give off summer vibes”
Me: “Say no more!”
When I think of summer, I think of hot pink. My client and I decided to play with the peekaboo look she already had, but we wanted to take it up a notch and make it hot pink with Magenta and Dusty Rose from Kenra Creatives.
The Process
My client has pretty dark hair, so I wanted to make sure we had maximum lift, especially because we are working with creative colors. I decided to go in with a platinum card technique with my trusty Framar foils and Kenra Professional Blue Powder Lightner with 20 volume developer.
Once I applied the lightener, I went in with Kenra Professional Demi permanent color in 4A to help combat the previous red tone that she had on. Because 4 A is ash, it helps me directly combat the warmth to create a cool to neutral end result.
What is a platinum card hair technique?
A platinum card hair technique is designed to create the brightest and blondest end result that you can create in a session. You do not leave any hair out in this technique, so there is no dimension.
My biggest tip for this type of technique is to work quickly, but with purpose. You want to take small and fine sections to ensure even and maximum lift. I also love to include a conditioner on the ends to make sure there is no overlap and no breakage.

Donna Bella Tape in Hair Extensions for Fullness
My client wants to add a little bit of fullness around the back and sides of her hair, so we decided to add 6 sandwiches of 18″ Donna Bella Tape in Hair Extensions in 1B 60/60.
Using Kenra Color Creatives in Magenta and Dusty Rose, I throughly saturated both sides of the hair extensions, and to ensure a clean working space, I used Framar Funked up Film to separate each sandwich. I love the Funked up film because I can clearly see how the tape ins are processing and if I need to adjust any formulas, I don’t have any surprises when it is ready to rinse.
I processes the tape in extensions at room temperature for 20 minutes and rinsed them with cool water.

Tips for Kenra Creative Colors
I love my creative colors! They are my favorite when working with vivid colors because they are bold, bright and pigmented. If you follow the basic vivid color tips, Kenra Creatives can last up to 50 washes!
When applying the color, thoroughly saturate every piece and process on dry hair. Make sure your base color is light enough for the color you desire to put on it. Pretone if you must! Pre-toning is when you tone the hair before adding the final color to get rid of any unwanted tones. For example, if you put blue vivid on a yellow base without pre-toning, it may turn green. Thank you color theory!
I love to process the Creatives for 20 minutes and always rinse with cold water to ensure vibrancy.
When doing creatives, make sure to educate your clients about the upkeep. You always want to use a color safe shampoo and conditioner, my favorites are Kenra Luxe Shine Shampoo and Conditioner and Kenra Prime Shampoo and Conditioner.
