The removal process is fairly straightforward, but it is very tedious. If your client experienced any matting as mine did, you want to make sure to thoroughly brush the client’s hair out. I love to use the Donna Bella Extensions Brush. It is also a great time to educate them on the proper care of extensions. Remind them they need to brush their hair 2-3 times daily and pay special attention to the area of attachment.

Starting from the bottom, I make sure to section out the very first section. When doing extensions you always want clean partings, and this is a prime example of why. You can easily remove them with less hassle. Using my Donna Bella Keratin Bond Remover, I get to work.

Utilizing the Bond Remover, I spray it over 3-4 of the Keralink Extensions at the base. I then take my Luxe tool and use the grooved part of the tool to break down the keratin. Once you feel the keratin is broken down enough, grab the natural hair and gently pull the extension out.

Keep in mind we lose hair every day. If you notice lots of shedding, don’t freak out. Kera-Links is designed to last 8-12 weeks, so about 8-12 weeks of natural shedding will be in that extension. It is normal, as long as there are no bald spots on the scalp. Just make sure to give your client a thorough brushing and a nice scalp massage at the bowl! A double or triple cleanse with clarifying shampoo helps too.

If your bonds are stubborn, I would spray it again! Another tip is to rotate the extensions while clamping down with The Luxe tool. This allows for different pressure points and it helps break down the keratin from all angles.

Once you get all the Kera Links out, you start detangling. If your client doesn’t have any tangles, you still want to thoroughly brush out the hair. If they do have tangles, take your rat tail comb and try to gently brush the hair out. You always want to start detangling from the bottom up to minimize breakage. It also makes it less painful for your client.

The removal usually takes me about 1-2 hours for just the removal if your client has a full head of Kera links.

How to Educate your Client on Proper Aftercare

As mentioned, you need to brush your extensions 2-3 times daily with the Donna Bella Extension brush. This brush has special bristles that help gently detangle the hair and not disturb the foundation of the extensions. It has staggered bristles and it is 100% boar hair.

It is important to have them wash their hair row by row. This allows the scalp to be thoroughly cleansed and allows any loose hair to shed properly. It is also recommended to have a silk pillowcase to minimize friction on the hair.

When I sleep, I love to braid my hair at the base to ensure the base of my hair doesn’t get knotted. It is also ideal for all clients to do this.

Benefits of Kera Link Hair Extensions

Believe it or not, Keratin Link extensions are perfect for thin, fine, or even clients that are balding. When done properly, Kera-Links extensions create zero damage to the hair. As mentioned, they are so customizable that you can blend them with ease. Because you can cut them up so tiny, you can essentially get right up to the hairline.

They are also great for clients with short hair that want to skip the pesky grow-out phase! They are able to last about 8-12 weeks depending on how well the clients take care of them. You are also able to experiment with colors without having to lighten or dye the hair.
