How to section for full highlights on blonde hair
In this hair tutorial, I share how to section for a full highlight on blonde hair as well as toning and hairline highlight tips! I get a lot of questions about sectioning for highlights, so I thought I would share what my preference is. While there are many different techniques, this one is my favorite for overall brightness and lots of blending.
I love to mix highlights and babylights to create dimension while also brightening her up. It is important to foil at a diagonal if you are going for more of a diffused look.
On the sides, I went with a more horizontal foil placement, and then on top I did a mohawk section with brighter blonde pieces in the front.
Because my client has some compromised hair, I decided to go in with Kenra Professional Simply Blonde Beyond Bond lightener where I may overlap and blue powder lightener at the base. Beyond Bond lightener is my go-to lightener when working with previously lightened hair because of its dual bond complex. If I overlap, I don’t have to worry about the hair getting compromised because this lightener is so gentle.
Formula:
Beyond bond lightener with a 1:2 mixing ratio with 20 volume developer.
Kenra Professional Blue powder lightener for more of a pow! I also used 20 volume developer with a 1:2 mixing ratio.
Toner: 10A + 10B with 9vol
Root tap: 8NA with 9vol
Process for full 20 minutes at the bowl!
