How to take blonde hair into a brunette ombre’ shade using demi-permanent hair color

Here’s the best way to take blonde hair to a brunette ombre’ shade, I like to call this tone cinnamon brunette.

It’s that time of year again! Your favorite summer blondes are turning into your favorite fall brunettes. In this video tutorial, I’m going to be showing you how I transitioned one of my blonde clients into a beautiful cinnamon brunette ombre shade.

I start out by mixing up my formula. Since we are only depositing (no lift and going darker) I decided to go in with Demi-Permanent hair color. It’s ammonia free and way less damaging to the hair.

I just loved how her grown out blonde highlights looked and wanted to keep the rooted look. A demi-permanent glaze was a perfect service for her. It only takes about 15 minutes to apply and 20 minutes of processing, making this a 1-hour salon service that you can easily charge over $100

I applied her color on dry hair. Since her hair was very healthy (not porous) I was not worried about over depositing. I knew the blonde highlights would add dimension, giving me lots of highs and lows without having to add more blonde. If she wanted a flat brunette shade, I would have gone in with a filler first.

Remember to go back to the basics by applying filler if you want the richest color possible. If you’re not sure what a filler is, check out this blog and video tutorial on how to fill hair from blonde to brunette.
