In this blog and video tutorial, I will go over how to do the easiest installation of hand tied wefts using Donna Bella Hair Extensions.

One of the most common concerns for hair extensions is, will my extensions be noticeable? Clients will be concerned with a tape or a bead showing when the wind blows in the wrong direction, but with the hand-tied wefts, hybrid, and machine weft extensions, they blend so seamlessly. They are also one of the most gentle types of extensions on the hair.

In my most recent Youtube video, I was able to demonstrate the easiest way to install Hybrid weft Hair extensions.

How to color match

Before you order the hair, have your client come in and color match their extensions. Donna Bella has dozens of colors to choose from, so it is very easy to find a color that matches. If you can’t find a perfect match, you can easily tone the hair extensions. All of the extensions are real hair.

You want to match the swatch to the bottom of your client’s hair because that is what the extensions will be blending into.

How to Install

Once you have your hair ready, you will need your tools. You will need your Donna Bella Luxe tool, Silicon beads, Donna Bella weaving needle and thread, quick pick, stork shear, loop tool, and some clips.

You want to leave a perimeter of hair that is about 2-3 finger-widths apart from the hairline so the weft is invisible when your client lifts the hair. Once that is done you can start beading! This part is very important because this is where you can create damage. Your bead section should be no wider than 1-1.5 the width of the bead and no deeper than 1 width of the bead.

When accounting for the amount of thread you will need, you want to use about 3-5 times the length of your section. You now want to measure the amount of hair you will use by simply measuring from one side to the other. Use your mini clips to hold your weft in place.

I like to start my anchor knots about 1-2 beads in when threading your weft into place. I then work my way out to the end beads and then back around. This will help prevent the corners from lifting and it will be more secure. Make sure when threading your weft you are always going over the top of the loop and pull up on the thread, and down on the weft for maximum security. Continue this pattern for all of the sections.

Benefits of Hybrid Wefts

Hybrid wefts are a relatively new type of extension. They are light as the hand-tied weft, but they are also machine bonded. This means that when you clip the hair when measuring, the extensions don’t unravel and there is no glue in the extension. They can also stay in the hair for 6-8 weeks if you properly take care of your extensions.

One of my clients with a hybrid weft extension says that “My hybrid extensions are so painless and I forget they are even there. I have gotten so many compliments on my hair and people are surprised when I tell them that they are extensions because they blend so well. The only time I remember I am even wearing extensions is when I put my hair up to go to sleep.”

What length is right for you

It is recommended to not go longer than 4 inches past your natural hair length unless your hair is super fine. The closer to your natural length it is, the better it will blend. You may have to cut your natural hair if the extensions do not blend properly.

How to take care of your Hybrid Extensions

Maintenance is key to making sure that you do not damage your hair. You want to be cautious in brushing your hair daily and washing it less often. When you shower, avoid getting any conditioner near your beads because it could cause pre-mature slippage. You also do not want to add any after-care products near the bead as well.

You want to get the beads moved up even 6-8 weeks and you want to make sure to not wait any longer than that. It could create damage to the hair.
