If you’re anything like me, you love the blended look of teasylights, but hate brushing them out! In this tutorial, I show you my favorite easy teasylight hair technique!
Teasylight highlights are easily one of the biggest trends right now. But sometimes, they can be a little time-consuming. Brushing out knotted hair after a lightning service is less than ideal for most clients. In this blog, I go over my favorite easy teasylight hair technique with NO teasing!
The Easy Teasylight Hair Technique Process
So, how do you create a tease without the tease? Placement and sectioning! I am taking a halo section, following the shape of her head so that the hair will fall naturally. Along with my halo placement, I am also taking zig zag sectioning to create a blended result.

When I like to create a super blended result, I typically choose the tools that make it easy for me. Work smarter, not harder! I always reach for my Coo Board when I do any type of balayage (or teasylight hair technique) because it allows me to create lots of saturation and tension. It also has little teeth up top to push the baby hairs out of the way!
Continuing the same halo pattern up, I am taking my Framar Dreamweaver comb about 6 inches away from the scalp. This gives me a little extra blend because it’s not picking up the baby hairs. If you wanted a brighter end result, go closer to the scalp.

My client didn’t want anything super crazy, she wanted it to be pretty natural. So, when doing dark hair, it is important to remember the saying “less is more”. The brightness of the highlights will look like a lot against the dark background, so no need to pack in the foils if your client is going for a natural look.

As I get to the front and the sides, I am keeping in mind she has a shag haircut! It is super layered and very textured, so I am going to be taking triangular sections similar to what I did in the back, and horizontal layers once I get to the top.
I am letting her process for about 40 minutes and because I chose Beyond Bond Lightener, her hair will feel super soft after. I love using Beyond Bond lightener because of its dual bond complex. This lightener works to repair & strengthen the inner cuticle while also mending the outer cuticle for 30% smoother and 50% more manageable hair. I love to reach for Beyond Bond because it lifts the hair up to 9+ levels without compromising condition.
Once she is finished processing, I gently shampoo her, and guess what! No detagaling necessary! I then go and mix up her toner which is 7B and 6GG from Kenra Professional. I let her process for about 15 minutes on her damp hair.
Now it’s time for one of my favorite parts, styling! I love giving my clients the perfect style to get them to enjoy their new hair. Most of the time, clients struggle to recreate the style you give them. Whether it be a smooth blowout or beachy waves. It is super important to have them leave with a style they love because they will want to come back and have you replicate it.
Why you need to educate your clients on Professional Products
I am using Kenra Blowdry Spray to give my client’s hair a beautiful shine, a little bit of heat protectant, and smoothness. Also, I am using it with Perfect Blowout which gives the hair a super velvety finish. I then curl her and use my beloved Dry Texture Spray to give her shag some texture and grit. While you are styling, it is a perfect time to educate your clients on products they need at home.
Talk to them about what they are currently using and see if there is an opportunity to sell them something you recommend. I can’t tell you how many clients I recommend Kenra products to and they come back 6 weeks later asking where that product has been all their life!
At my salon, we sell Kenra, Olaplex, Loma, Moroccanoil, and IGK, and within those lines, there is something for everyone! Not only does selling your client’s product help you, but it also helps them maintain the beautiful look you just created.
