Feeling bored? I get it, it’s the time between winter and summer where you don’t know if you want to go dark or light. Well, how about a little of both? In this video, I show you how I take my clients from blonde to pink, utilizing my favorite blush pink formula using Kenra Creatives! It is my new favorite spring look!

Blonde to Pink!

The Process

My client came in looking to refresh her look. She had just gotten her blonde done a couple of weeks ago, so she wasn’t looking to go any lighter. After thoroughly discussing her desired end result, we came to the conclusion she wanted a light blush pink and peekaboo blonde.

In my opinion, right now is the perfect time to experiment with fun pastel colors because spring is in full swing! Click here to check out another blush pink formula for those who want a more subtle look!

Because she wanted some pops of blonde around her face, I just sectioned out her previous blonde. I took a diagonal back section pretty high up on her hairline all the way to the tops of her ears on both sides. This will give her the perfect amount of blonde so when she tucks her hair behind her ear or when she curls it, you will be able to see it.

You want to keep in mind when using a creative color that your client’s hair needs to be a level 9 or 10 when doing light pastel colors. If it is any darker, you will not get a light and whimsical look. Similar to toning, you must put the creative shade similar to the desired level.

After applying the diamond frost to the sections around her face, I started working on her pink! I used a combination of muted copper, honey coral, and a little bit of velvet wine and started applying it to her dry hair. Starting at the back, I took one-inch sections. After every section, I used my Framar “The Emperor” color brush to comb through everything.

When applying any type of direct dye, you really need to make sure to saturate. What you see is what you get, so do not be skimpy when it comes to color. You almost want to oversaturate the hair. I also love to push it in with my hand for maximum saturation.

What I love about the Kenra Color Creatives is that they last about 50 washes. Of course, if your client is properly taking care of it at home! Recommend some of your favorite products for color care and make sure to educate them on proper aftercare.

After I applies my blush pink formulation, I used Honey Coral on the ends to create more of an Ombre look. Keep in mind that Honey Coral is a lot sheerer than the pink formula, so you want to be careful to not overlap too much. Let your client process for the full 20 minutes for maximum vibrancy. If you want to be sheerer, you can leave it on for less time.

Always rinse with cool or cold water. This will allow the color to last longer and it won’t bleed into the blonde. After, I finish styling her with Kenra Blow-dry spray, Kenra Perfect Blowout and some Volume spray to keep the curls in place all day!

Proper Aftercare for Creative Color

Proper aftercare is essential for keeping creative colors vivid. They do last about 50 washes, but that will be the proper maintenance at home. First things first, you need to wash with cold water. This will help make the color also last longer due to the fact you’re not opening the cuticle as much as you could with hot water.

Next, you want to use a color-safe shampoo and conditioner. None of those drug store products, especially with semi-permanent color.

Keep the heat to a minimum. Using heat on your hair can open the cuticle and allow the color to fall right out. You always want to keep it at 350 degrees or below when you have a creative color in your hair and not skip on the heat protectant.

Make your maintenance appointments! This doesn’t have to be a lightening appointment every time, but it is good to get semi-permanent color touched up every 4-6 weeks for maximum vibrancy.

Ever since Kenra released their creatives, I was obsessed! It was really fun being able to mix and match my formula to make the perfect vivid color for my model. She likes to have a bright green shade, which Kenra actually does not have. It was a great way to play with the shades until I found the best custom color for her green to yellow colormelt on dark hair!
