Hair Education with Guy Tang

In this Blog, I talk about my hair education experience with Guy Tang where I get to try all new Kenra Colors!

This past week I spent my time learning hair education at the Kenra Professional studio in downtown Indianapolis, Indiana with Guy Tang!  If you ever get a chance to go to Indiana, it’s a small city with a big city feel.  The Kenra Professional studio is on East Washington Street, not far from Monument Circle.

There you can find the Soldiers and Sailors Monument. That has been there since 1889 and lots of awesome restaurants to eat at.  Just like every city, it has it’s own culture and feel.  I love the feeling I get when I go to Indiana! Especially coming from the land of concrete and palm trees (California).

Every few months, all of the Regional Education Managers from across the country meet at the studio in Indy.  Not only do the 8 of us have a great time bonding over funny education stories, hair, and food! We also learn new color collections, styling techniques. Then, we get to put our hands into some new innovative products that will be launching in the near future.

If you ask any passionate hairstylist, what is the most important thing you need to be successful?  Education would be their top 3 picks.

This training, however, was not like any other training.  We had a special treat that not many stylists get the opportunity to have. We get to put our hands in the new Kenra Color Neon collection that will be launching this fall! They are amazing!

My experience with Guy Tang

A one on one session with Guy Tang!  A man that is amazing at his craft, a great businessman, and someone I truly admire for many reasons.  For most of the 1.5 million Instagram followers he has, they know him as a hair god, hair bestie, YouTuber, the list goes on.

If you ever get an opportunity to sit down over lunch with Guy, you will quickly learn how nice and warm of a person he really is.  The handful of times I have had the pleasure to hang out with him, I have never felt “less than” or intimidated.

In fact, all of us hair painted our mannequins in front of him but never felt the need to cover up our work like a 5-year-old covering up his drawing in school.  Guy makes you feel like you are great at what you do and shares that common passion for always learning and inspiring one another.

If there is anything that I can take away from my training this week, is to embrace who you are as an educator, hairstylist, and a person.

Inspiration comes in many forms whether that’s through Instagram pictures, admiring your colleague’s work during training, or mixing new colors with Guy Tang.

Never stop learning, always try new things, and never ever give up! You never know where your dreams will take you.
