Curly Hair Don’t Care – My routine/tutorial

In this blog, I go over my Curly Hair Routine/ Curly Hair Tutorial for all my beautiful Curly Girls out there!

I get lots of questions about how I take care of my curls, especially since I change colors frequently. So, here is my Curly Hair routine tutorial! The obvious is washing my hair about once a week with cool water and a deep moisturizing mask.  Aside from the usual weekly treatment, I thought why not show the process of how I style it on “hair washing day”.  Down below are the products I love to use on my curls followed by a 60 second video of it all.  I hope you enjoy!

Step 1:

A generous amount of Kenra Curl Styling Conditioner.  Words cannot describe how much I love this stuff!  It’s moisturizing, detangling, and most of all its a leave in styler.  You can use it in the shower and before styling your hair which makes this an awesome product because of it’s versatility.  I usually use the Curl Styling Conditioner in the shower, detangle my hair with my fingers, and lightly rinse it out.  Leaving some of it in is great for my curls because the more hydration the better.  Once I’m ready to style, I apply a few more pumps in my hands and rake it through my hair.  In the video below, I used my wet brush to evenly distribute the product through my hair.  I like my curls to be more organized when I style, so this works for me.

Step 2:

Apply 2 pumps of Kenra Curl Defining Creme.  Another top favorite of mine.  Why?  Because I like soft, touchable curls with definition, the this stuff gives me that.  It has a light hold, smells amazing, and it allows me to air dry or diffuse depending on my mood that day.  I also feel like it hydrates my hair, which is a plus, because it’s a cream.  I don’t like my hair to have that crunchy look, so this is the perfect product to give me frizz control and style.

Step 3:

Apply Kenra Curl High-Hold Spray Gel in my HANDS.  Yep!  You read that right.  I spray the gel in my hands.  This is more of a preference thing because you can totally spray this right into your hair, but I prefer to scrunch it into my hair as I shape and mold my curls.  It has a higher hold to it so I only use about 5-7 sprays in my hands since I like my hair to be as soft to the touch as possible.  Since I only wash my hair about once a week, I do need some hold to last me though the week.  My ends are usually what needs a little support and this spray gel gives me that without the flakiness and without too much crunch.

Step 4:

Diffuse on high heat, low blow.  But there is a trick to this!  I often see people use the diffuser all crazy.  The constantly move it all over the place and then have their other hand scrunching their hair at the same time as drying.  Well I don’t know if you know this or not, but all that movement you are making with your dryer and hand is causing more frizz.  What works for me is place your hair over your diffuser and scrunch it all the way up to your roots and leave it there.  I usually leave the dryer in one place for about 3 minutes and then move on to the next section.  My total diffusing time is around 10-12 minutes.  You will see your curls are shaped perfectly and frizz free.  I love big hair though, so I do like to blowdry the roots without the diffuser for about 60 seconds.  This gives me the added volume at the roots that I love so much.  Big hair don’t care!

Step 5:

Apply Kenra Platinum Silkening Serum.  OK, first of all this smells amazing but aside from that, I do love it because it gives me that added shine and helps break up my curls just enough.  Not to mention it gives me the added benefit of making my hair feel even more incredibly soft.

  1. I love this!!! but now i need ALL these products haha

  2. This is super helpful!! My problem during the week is that my roots get super oily within a day or so. Any tips to avoid that?

    1. Thank you for your comment. Dry Shampoo girl! Kenra has a great one called Volume Dry Shampoo. It’s clear and it volumizes the roots. However, if your hair is SUPER oily, just wash it! My hair happens to be dry so I can personally get away with it. Everyone is different. So if you feel like it’s oily and the dry shampoo is not enough, wash it. Just make sure you are giving your curls some extra moisture on the ends especially. Hope this helps.

  3. I just recently cut my hair in layers and it’s a little past my shoulder. I don’t like to dry my hair unless I’m going to go out. If I wash my hair and let it try by itself It gets curly with waves but frizzy., so when I saw your video and saw the products that you use for your curls I love it so I will buy it to do my hair. So, when I wash my hair I will style it with curls or if I go out and I’m lazy to dry it I will do the curls, especially with all this rain, it’s not worth drying it. I will go with the curls.

    1. This is great! Thank you for your comment Miriam! These products work great to air dry too and girl, we are all lazy with are hair sometimes. So there is nothing wrong with you letting it air dry. My suggestion to you is if you feel like you have the frizz and need more hold, use a mousse over the curl styling conditioner but definitely use the curl styling conditioner! The main reason for frizz is lack of moisture. Hope this helps.

  4. Omg! I love this! I can’t wait to try these products. Thank you for the review.
