Goodbye 2016!

I’m sitting here in my brand new kitchen with my cute teal door and I can’t believe another year went by.  Where did all the time go?  I can’t help but think of all of the accomplishments I’ve made both in my personal and career life.  I successfully remodeled most of my house, both kids did not suffer broken bones, and my social media pages are growing.  2016 has been great! I’m that kind of person that is always thinking “WHAT’S NEXT?” and I never truly stop to smell the roses.  Like most creative-thinking beings, we go through many highs and lows.  Recently, I was feeling rather frustrated about my skills.  What I hadn’t started or finished.  For example, I never finished 2 videos for my vlog that should have been done 2…

Vanderpump Rules Wedding Updo Tutorial

I seriously can’t believe I was part of this amazing day.  Not only did Vanderpump Rules cast member, Katie Maloney, trust me with one of her most important accessory (her hair!) but I was able to witness a beautiful ceremony and be part of someones special day.  That’s one of the reasons why I truly love this industry.  As hairstylists, we are able to quickly connect with people on an intimate level and help them feel beautiful everyday.  Think about it?  I never in my life met Katie and here I am touching her hair!  I think it’s an amazing thing that I am allowed in her personal space, creating this beautiful updo, on a very special day, her wedding! So I thought I would pass on this special moment the best way a hairstylist can.  To show you all of the steps I…

Manny and Me Rouching Upstyle

Manny is my mannequin.  Sometimes her name is Alexis, Charlize, or Amber.  Because she has so many names and comes with different hair textures and colors, I call her Manny. In this Manny and Me tutorial, you will find an easy to do hair style that incorporates rouching.  It will create a beautiful half-up half-down style that’s versatile for any occasion.  I created this style using all Kenra Professional products.  Please feel free to share! – M…

How to Remove Blue and Green Haircolor

New YouTube up! I often get asked how to remove direct dyes from the hair (for example Kenra Creative Blue or Teal).  While lighteners are great to lift out color and direct dye lifters can do most of the job, sometimes you are still left with a much lighter version of a blue or teal.  SO…. how do you tone that out? Have you ever heard of “browning out” the color?  It’s when you take the complimentary color you are trying to remove and brown it out to make a neutral shade.  Let me show you. &nbsp…

No matter how long you have been doing hair…

This past week I spent my time training at the Kenra Professional studio in down town Indianapolis, Indiana.  If you ever get a chance to go to Indiana, it’s a small city with a big city feel.  The Kenra Professional studio is on East Washington Street, not far from Monument Circle.  There you can find the Soldiers and Sailors Monument that has been there since 1889 and lots of awesome restaurants to eat at.  Just like every city, it has it’s own culture and feel.  I love the feeling I get when I go to Indy, especially coming from the land of concrete and palm trees (California). Every few months, all of the Regional Education Managers from across the country meet at the studio in Indy.  Not only do the 8 of us have a great time bonding over funny education stories, hair, and food (we…

Let me introduce myself, my name is Mirella.

Mirella. Mer-el-lah or Mee-ray-yah as I like to pronounce it when I’m feeling sassy.  It’s my alter ego with my same name, different pronunciation.  I am probably the only Mirella you will ever meet that does not speak fluent Spanish.  It is the first language I learned but some where along the way (sometime during elementary school) I lost my direction.  For example, I can read and understand it, but I can’t carry on a fluid conversation.  I don’t know, maybe it’s my insecurity of possibly saying something wrong and maybe I need to practice a whole lot more. Usually when I meet someone with a unique name, they either love it or hate it.  I love my name. It’s uniquely mine and literally translates to “look at her” in Spanish.  I…
